For many Moms, falling asleep (and staying asleep!) can be a nightly struggle. According to doctors and sleep experts, it is important for expecting Mamas to sleep on their side. The left side is preferred, doctors say, as it can help benefit your baby by improving blood flow and nutrients to the placenta.

Sleeping on the left side also helps your kidney efficiently eliminate waste and fluids from your body, which can help reduce swelling in your ankles, feet and hands.

Many Moms use a pillow between the legs and under the belly to help get comfortable, but there is not much you can do when you’re finally zonked out and dreaming of bikinis and mojitos. As a back sleeper, I was very happy to be introduced to the Utterly Yours Pregnancy Pillow.

Like The Spoiled Mama, the Utterly Yours Pregnancy Pillow was invented by a frustrated mom who needed a solution to a problem. Anita Jamshidi was instructed by her OBGYN to spend her third trimester lying on her left side as much as possible in order to increase blood flow to the baby.

And just like millions of other expecting moms, Anita found the instructions hard to follow. The pregnancy pillows available on the market were too soft, which caused her to roll over, and took up too much space on the bed.
